Flyers Fan Loses Legs in Bombings, Bomb Parts Found, Philadelphia Running Clubs Show Support

A Philadelphia Flyers fan lost both his legs in Boston in the bombings on Patriot Day Monday. Twenty seven year old Jeff Bauman (pictured) who remains in critical condition, has deep family roots in the Philadelphia area. Bauman’s father grew up in Oaklyn, Camden County and lived in East Falls for a time. He also has family in Villanova. Despite living in New Hampshire and Massachusetts, Bauman remained a Flyers fan.

Federal authorities know more about the bombs used and how the explosions were carried out at the Boston Marathon Monday. Pictures of pieces of one of the bombs that did not fully explode reveal that a 6 liter pressure cooker was used and filled with nails, ball bearings and sharp metal objects. The bombs were concealed in duffel bags and detonated remotely. No suspects yet.

Several running clubs will show their support for the victims of bombings by running. Tomorrow night at 7 pm, the South Philly Striders, the Fairmount Running Company, the Fishtown Beer Runners and others will gather for their regular runs, then converge on the Parkway near the Art Museum before continuing the run down Market Street to City Hall.

Sports
Today the Phillies and Reds resume last night’s scoreless game suspended in the 9th inning for rain. Then play the final game of the series. The 76ers are in Indiana.

Weather
Mix of Sun and clouds. 69 in Center City.
