A massive explosion at a fertilizer plant near Waco Texas on Wednesday night injured dozens of people and sent flames shooting into the night sky, leaving the factory a smoldering ruin following a blast that damaged buildings for blocks in every direction. The explosion at West Fertilizer in West, a community about 20 miles north of Waco, happened shortly before 8 p.m. and could be heard as far away as 45 miles to the north. Buildings in a five-block radius from the plant were severely damaged by the explosion.

A 19-year-old woman is dead after police say she fell from the roof of a North Philadelphia row house, not far from Temple University on Wednesday night. It was after 5 p.m. and a party was going on at a home on the 1900 block of North 18th Street. It was there that police say a 19-year-old woman accidentally fell off the roof of the three story house. She was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

UPDATE: The young woman has been identified as Ali Fausnaught, a native of Lancaster and West Chester University student. She was partying with friends on the roof when she fell over the 10-inch ledge and into a small alley between the buildings. She graduated from Conestoga Valley High School.

A Mississippi man was arrested Wednesday, accused of sending letters to President Obama and a senator that tested positive for the poisonous ricin. Paul Kevin Curtis, 45, was arrested at 5:15 p.m. at his apartment in Corinth, near the Tennessee state line about 100 miles east of Memphis. The letters were intercepted before reaching the White House or Senate and were postmarked Memphis, Tenn.
