PA Turnpike Accident, Bristol Kidnapping, Penn Relays Security

A pedestrian was struck and killed on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in King of Prussia on Monday night. It was about 10:45 p.m. last night on the Pennsylvania Turnpike near the Allendale Road overpass in Upper Merion Township where the person was fatally struck by a tractor trailer. The driver of the tractor trailer stopped at the scene. There is no word on what caused the incident.

38-year-old Orlando McNeil was the mastermind behind the kidnapping and robbery of four adults and three children, all allegedly held inside a Bristol apartment overnight for ransom. The other two men under arrest are 21-year-old DaeSean Smith and 18-year-old Dennis Redding. Police say their plan foiled when one of the victims was forced to withdraw $80,000 from his bank Monday morning. The victim told a teller at the bank his family was in danger and asked for police. All three suspects are in jail, each being held on $1 million dollars bail.

The Penn Relays are only days away, but Boston is still on everyone’s mind. More than 20,000 athletes and 100,000 fans will pack Franklin Field to watch the historic meet. In light of Boston, crowds should be ready for extra security. A team will watch relays and the crowds from Penncomm, the security command center, using outdoor cameras to see what eyes on the ground can miss. Fans could get wanded at the gate, and they will not be allowed to bring in bags or backpacks. UPenn will also have bomb-sniffing dogs and bomb disposal units ready in case of an emergency. The Penn Relays are the oldest and largest track meet in the country.
