Philadelphia has been honored as the best city in the country for culture. For many creative groups that help to shape that reputation, PNC bank continues to serve as a patron of the arts announcing the 21 organizations that would get a share of $1-million in grant money. From small street performers to cornerstones like the Mann Center, where CEO Catherine Cahill says the cash will help them stage a ‘Symphonic Sportstacular’ on June 24.

Twelve thousand chalk body outlines will cover eight city blocks in Center City later this month as part of a massive community art project. The purpose is to pay homage to the many Americans killed by gun violence each year. Titled, “American Casualties: A Drawing,” the two-day project will require hundreds of Philadelphians to participate in a day of sketching in chalk along JFK Boulevard. The purpose of the project is to evoke community action, by forcing the public to get a real world view of the impact of gun violence. The first day of the project will be the public drawing and the second day will be the public display. The event is set to take place May 18th and 19th.

A store owner and patron are hospitalized after they were stabbed inside Murano’s Deli on the 6600 block of Castor Avenue last night. Philadelphia Police say the 35-year-old store owner was stabbed in the right chest. A 38-year-old patron was stabbed in the left thumb. Police recovered a weapon at the scene and a man is in police custody
