The Archdiocese of Philadelphia announced plans to merge 27 more parishes over the weekend. The announcement has many in affected Philadelphia and Delaware County parishes hoping there is a chance to save them. Many of the city parishes with declining membership were established over 100 years ago to serve the large immigrant population. (SEE THE FULL LIST BELOW)

Kaboni Savage, the convicted drug lord, is getting the death sentence today. Savage was found guilty of masterminding and ordering the murders of a federal witness’ family. Twelve people were killed including four children and seven of those killings, Savage ordered from his prison cell.

The Parx Casino Philly Cycling Classic had a very different feel than prior bike races in Manayunk. This year the event was scaled back to a shorter course and there was more focus on the sport than on the sidewalk parties that often culminated in fights and arrests. The famed “Manayunk Wall” on Lyceum Avenue was less crowded and more family friendly as spectators cheered competitors climbing the 17 percent grade.
