Philadelphia Building Collapse Toll, Cause of Collapse Investigation, Corbett to Sign Abortion Bill

The death toll is six in the Philadelphia building collapse. That was the word from Mayor Michael yesterday after the Salvation Army Thrift Shop building at 22nd and Market collapsed without warning. One man and five women were killed. Fourteen survivors have been pulled from the rubble. The investigation into the cause of the collapse is continuing.

Could the collapse have been avoided? Fingers are being pointed at the Griffin Campbell Construction which was demolishing the building next door when a large brick wall collapsed onto the Salvation Army Thrift Store. The demolition boss has a history of violations on other properties he has worked on.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett is signing a bill that would prohibit coverage of most elective abortions from being offered by a federally-run health insurance exchange beginning next year. The reason? The new federal health care law uses taxpayer money to fund the health insurance marketplace, so elective abortions should be excluded.

Sports
The Phillies try to extend their 4 game win streak tonight in Milwaukee against the Brewers.

Weather
Mostly cloudy today. 74 in Center City.
