NASCAR driver Jason Leffler has died after a crash during a Sprint Car race at Bridgeport Speedway in Swedesboro New Jersey last night. The 37 year old Leffler, nicknamed “LefTurn” a two time NASCAR winner, died in a heat race at the dirt car event. Lefler lost his NASCAR ride and had been racing dirt cars most of this year.

The L & I inspector who visited the demolition site prior to the collapse has taken his own life. Authorities say 50 year old Ronald Wagenhoffer texted his wife near his home about 9 last night. He was later found in his vehicle dead of a gunshot wound to the chest. Six people died in the collapse at the Salvation Army Thrift Store last week.

This week in Haverford Township, near the iRadioPhilly studios, the Goodyear blimp is overhead, traffic is snarled and young men are holding signs on the street corners that say “I need tickets.” The U.S. Open is here. Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia and Rory McIlroy will golf around weather interruptions at Merion East in Ardmore for the next 4 days.

The U.S. Open teed off this morning at Merion with the first groups hitting the fairways just after 7 am. The Phillies are in Minnesota to tonight with the Twins.

High winds around strong thunderstorms in the area this afternoon. 78 in Center City.
