A three-judge panel in New Jersey has dismissed a suit aimed at blocking a special election to fill the seat of the late U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg. Democrats went to court, arguing that the vote should coincide with the November general election, where Governor Chris Christie's re-election now tops the ballot. Christie instead scheduled a primary for August 13Th and a special election for October 16th. The winner in the fall will serve through the end of next year.

New Jersey State Police are investigating a rash of copper thefts throughout Cape May County.
Authorities say the incidents began on May 12thwith thefts reported in Dennis, Upper, and Middle Townships. According to State Police, thieves are taking air conditioning units, copper pipes and wire from businesses, churches, and medical offices.

Police are investigating after a 22-year-old man was stabbed in Northeast Philadelphia Thursday night on the 8800 block of Cottage Street. Philadelphia Police say the victim was stabbed once in the stomach. He was taken to Aria Health Torresdale Campus and is listed in stable condition. Police say a suspect is in custody. There is no word on a motive.
