The SS United States has been sitting empty on the Delaware River for the last 20 years and is in danger of being sold for scrap. During its years of operation, the SS United States carried more than 1 million passengers between 1952 and 1969. Supporters have convinced the PECO Building and Cira Center to light up with graphics and messages over the next 3 days to increase awareness and support. FEMA has released revised flood insurance rate maps for New Jersey counties including Atlantic, Hudson, Monmouth and Ocean County. Homeowners can visit the FEMA website to check their addresses and flood risk. Many affected property owners damaged by Superstorm Sandy must decide whether to rebuild in high-risk areas.

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia is dealing with shortfalls in a fund-raising campaign for its pension fund for priests. Archbishop Charles Chaput says the fund has only $4.5 million dollars and needs $90 million to be solvent. Church officials expect parishes and retired clergy to cover the shortfall.

The Phillies open a series at home tonight with the Washington Nationals.
