Philadelphia boxer Bernard Hopkins has won the 2013 John Wanamaker Athletic Award. The award is presented annually "to the athlete, team or organization that has done the most to reflect credit upon Philadelphia" Hopkins joins other athletes such as Julius Erving, Chuck Bednarick, Mike Schmidt, and Roy Halladay. The 48-year-old is still fighting today, about to defend his title against against Sergay Kovalev.

Mayor Michael Nutter admitted his own personal mistake in not paying his late PGW bill that led to a lien being placed on his home. The mayor owed $507 to the gas company and says that he did not pay a bill by accident and probably missed any warnings that were sent. The mayor claims it was a personal lapse on his part in missing one payment, that he is very busy, and that he pays all his bills on time.

Two more bears were caught in the area today. The first was sighted and eventually tranquilized in Ewing, NJ after he climbed into a tree on the campus of the College of New Jersey. The second bear was likely one spotted yesterday in the Furlong neighborhood on a swingset. This morning a black bear was seen in a wooded area near the Valley Square Shopping Center in Warrington Township, Bucks County. The Pennsylvania Game Commission tranquilized it while it was in a tree. It was a young bear weighing only 175 lbs. It will be checked out and released up in the Poconos.
