Turnpike Pay To Play Hearing, Powerball Winner in South Philly, Heat Wave This Week in Philadelphia
  by: iradiotom - Philadelphia, PA

Today a preliminary hearing is underway for defendants in connection with "pay to play" schemes at the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. Accused in the schemes include the former CEO, Joseph Brimmeier, former Turnpike Commissioner Mitchell Rubin, and former longtime Democratic state Senate leader Robert Mellow who is currently in prison after pleading guilty in a federal corruption case.

There is a new mega-millionaire in our midst. The winning Powerball ticket worth more than $131 million was sold at a beer distributor in South Philly. Lottery officials confirmed that the winning ticket was sold at Federal Beer at Broad and Federal Streets. The winning numbers are 13-19-23-33-57 with the PowerBall# 28. If you have it, sign the back of it and start making plans for what to do with all that loot.

Summer just officially started on Friday and we are in for the second heat wave of the season this week as temperatures are likely to push past 90 degrees through at least Thursday. We had a rare late Spring heat wave in early June with multiple 90 plus degree days. Thundershowers at the end of each day are possible this week as high heat and humidity grip the east coast from Boston to Washington.

The Phillies start a west coast road trip against the Padres in San Diego tonight.

Sunny, hot and humid today. Afternoon or evening thundershowers possible. 91 in Center City.
