CHOP Gift of $50 Million, Craigslist Murder Suspect Linked to Other Robberies, Code Orange Air Alert

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia will build a new Pediatric Care center thanks in large part to a $50 million gift from a Fort Washington financial services firm. The building will be called The Buerger Center for Advanced Pediatric Care. The $50 million gift is the largest ever to CHOP and will be a big help covering the $425 million cost of the new building on the University City site.

The man accused of murder after a Craigslist ad may have done the same thing several times before. Thomas Coffee has a long list of arrests and is accused of robbing and murdering 27 year old Daniel Cooke who came to Coffee to purchase an ATV advertised on Craigslist. Police are now linking Coffee to several other robberies at gunpoint after Craigslist ads.

We have a heat wave this week, high ozone levels and the environmental protection departments in Pennsylvania and New Jersey have issued air-quality alerts. “Code Orange” means pollution levels are unhealthy to young children, the elderly and anyone with asthma, emphysema or bronchitis. The Code Orange Alert covers Philadelphia, suburbs and most of New Jersey.

The Phillies take on the Padres in San Diego tonight.

Weather
