The crane operator involved in the deadly building collapse on Market Street this month is in court today for a preliminary hearing. Sean Benschop is charged with six counts of involuntary manslaughter, one count of reckless endangerment and causing a catastrophe. Benschop allegedly had marijuana and pain killers in his system at the time of the collapse on June 5th.

Baltimore Ravens running back and former Temple Owl, Bernard Pierce was robbed at gunpoint on Sunday afternoon in Philadelphia. The incident took place in Overbrook Park at about 5:30 Sunday. Pierce was standing outside Stacey’s Pizza on Drexel Road near Haverford Avenue when a man emerged from a car with a handgun and took Pierces wallet, phone, car keys and took off in Pierce’s BMW SUV. Pierce was not injured.

Mayor Nutter’s proposed bill to tax cigarettes to help raise funds for the Philadelphia School District was advanced to the State Senate Committee yesterday, but the bill may not have enough time before summer recess to get any further. Recess starts Sunday and there are questions about whether the bill gives Philadelphia tools that other areas in Pennsylvania do not have.

Sports
The Phillies go for the series win against the Padres in San Diego tonight.

Weather
Hot and humid today. Isolated thunderstorms are likely into the evening. 90 in Center City.
