Nelson Mandela is on life support. The former South African president's condition has worsened over the last couple of days. Well-wishers and supporters continued Wednesday to gather outside of the Pretoria hospital where Mandela has been receiving treatment for nearly three weeks and the South African president canceled a Thursday trip amid worry about his health. The sense of anticipation and foreboding about Mandela's fate has grown since late Sunday, when the South African government declared that the condition of the statesman, who was rushed to a hospital in Pretoria on June 8, had deteriorated.

Police have confirmed the identity of a body found off of Route 42 in Camden County, NJ on Monday. Officials say dental records were used to identify the victim as 59-year-old Carol Reiff, of Blackwood, who was reported missing on Friday, June 21. An autopsy performed on Monday night was unable to determine the cause of death due to decay. While the Medical Examiner’s Office hasn’t ruled Reiff’s death a homicide, police consider the investigation a criminal one.

State police are looking for a few good horses in Pennsylvania. State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan says Wednesday that they’re seeking donations of horses to be used for searches, crowd control, and patrol operations of remote areas. Noonan says state police have used horses since 1905, and that they are still a reliable tool in police work. Donated horses must be geldings between the ages of 5 and 15 years old and stand at least 16 hands tall, but less than 18 hands tall. Drafts and draft-crosses are preferred, while thoroughbreds are less desirable.

Weather, June 27

Thunderstorms. High 88 in Center City.
