More Federal Money for Sandy Recovery, Sarah Murnaghan Setback, Progress in PA Liquor Talks

More federal money has been pledged by FEMA to reimburse New Jersey towns recovering from Hurricane Sandy. The additional $240 million brings the total to 90% of the total costs towns paid for emergency operations, repair and cleanup. The prior commitment had been for 75%, so the additional funding means big relief for taxpayers who will now pay for a smaller portion of the recovery.

Sarah Murnaghan needed her breathing tube reinstalled after struggling to breathe without it. The 10 year old underwent a lung transplant in Philadelphia after a judge intervened and gave her a shot at organs from adult donors. Sarah Murnaghan suffers from cystic fibrosis and doctors are optimistic she will eventually gain more strength.

There has been progress in talks among Pennsylvania lawmakers about overhauling the liquor sales system in the state. According to CBS’s KYW, with just 4 days left before summer recess, closed door discussions among Republican members yielded progress toward language on a new bill. Agreement has not been reached, but they are close.

Sports
After taking 2 of 3 from the Padres, the Phillies move up the west coast for a series with the Dodgers.

Weather
Hot and humid today. Isolated thunderstorms are likely into the evening. 88 in Center City.
