PA Voter ID Law, Roosevelt Blvd Bike Accident, West Philadelphia Pool Near Drowning

Plaintiffs seeking to overturn Pennsylvania's voter-identification law zeroed in Thursday on a few dozen registered voters who sought, but did not receive, photo ID cards before last year's presidential election as examples of how voters could be disenfranchised if the law takes effect. The March 2012 law remains in limbo, unenforced by order of the court, and the trial, which began Monday, will help determine whether it is implemented or struck down. Both sides agree the state Supreme Court will ultimately decide the case.

An 11-year-old girl is in critical condition after she was hit by a car while riding her bike on Roosevelt Boulevard Thursday evening. The incident happened at about 6 p.m. at Roosevelt Boulevard near Garland Street in the Lawncrest section, about a mile-and-a-half away from Tuesday’s fatal accident. Philadelphia Police say the girl was riding her bike when she crossed the southbound inner lanes against the light and was hit by a 2003 Cadillac Escalade.

A six-year-old boy is in extremely critical condition after nearly drowning in a pool early Thursday afternoon in West Philadelphia. Officials said the boy was swimming at a community recreation center in the 200 block of South 63rd Street when it happened. The child did not know how to swim but he was under close supervision by counselors who were in the pool. The pool was shut down as police investigated and lifeguards were taken in for questioning.
