Camden School Burglary Arrest, Superstorm Sandy Deception, Penn State Football Sanction Expires

Camden County officials say they have made an arrest in the East Camden Middle School burglary. A 15-year-old male has been charged with third degree burglary and third degree theft. Suspects stole electronic gadgets and bikes worth more than $6,000 overnight last Friday

A central New Jersey man who allegedly preyed on Superstorm Sandy victims by promising them low-cost housing or cars has been indicted on 10 counts of theft by deception. David Ruddy of Metuchen is accused of stealing about $55,000 from 13 victims overall, including seven people who were in need of housing or a car due to Sandy. Five other victims were people who needed housing or a car for other reasons, while the final victim needed furniture. Ruddy faces up to 50 years in prison if convicted on all 10 counts.

The NCAA rule connected to Penn State’s sanctions that had the earliest impact on the football program is set to expire Thursday. The rule allowing Nittany Lions to transfer without having to sit out a year at a new school elapses Aug. 1. Penn State returns to a level playing field with other FBS schools a year after the NCAA levied its landmark penalties for the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal.
