Dead Dolphins at Jersey Shore, Woman Dies in Fall From Condo, L and I Hearings

Two more dead dolphins washed up at the Jersey shore yesterday and environmental officials are still searching for the reason the dolphins are dying. These two at Ocean City and Margate bring the total dead dolphins on the beach to over 20. So far the deaths have been linked to pneumonia and common dolphin virus.

A woman died this morning after a fall from the 12th floor of the waterfront Dockside Condominiums on Columbus Boulevard. The 30 year old woman was pronounced dead at the scene after she landed on a fourth floor terrace. Investigators are working to determine whether or not it was an accident.

Former Philadelphia L & I inspectors criticized the current system and pointed to the recent deadly collapse on Market Street as just the most recent in a string of deadly failings by L&I. Bennett Levin, who headed the department in Ed Rendell’s first term testified at hearings that L&I’s sole purpose should be public safety – not economic development.
