Harold Camping explains May 21 Judgement Day, says it was "Invisible" , sets new date for October 21

The judgement day that was predicted by Harold Camping and his Family Radio network on billboards and pamphlets around the world came and went with nothing to show for it. Camping said he initially felt so bad that his rapture prediction did not come true that millions of Christians would be taken into heaven on Saturday that he left his home and took refuge in a motel.

But after careful thought and reconsideration, Camping is now saying that he just misunderstood the meaning of the May 21st judgement day and how it would manifest itself.

He now realizes that it was "an invisible judgement day" and October 21 will still be the day the Earth is totally destroyed by a fireball. The dates and timetable are still correct.

"We've always said May 21 was the day, but we didn't understand altogether the spiritual meaning," he said. "May 21 is the day that Christ came and put the world under judgment."

So that's his explanation. He was wrong before, in 1994, but that was a mathematical error.

As for giving away all your stuff ahead of the end of the world... even Camping says, "I still have to live in a house, I still have to drive a car," he said. "What would be the value of that? If it is Judgment Day why would I give it away?"

He also says Family Radio would never tell anyone what to do with their possessions, "That is between them and God."

That doesn't leave much solace for those that gave up everything to promote "May 21st" for Camping and his radio network. Which in a 2009 IRS filing reported $18.3 million in donations and $104 million in assets.
