For the first time in 2 decades, the federal government has shut down. Congress did not pass an emergency spending bill by midnight, so non-essential government employees are staying home from work without pay. The Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Valley Forge Park services all closed today. Air traffic controllers and military are not affected.

A man was shot in Center City last night across from City Hall. According to reports, three people got out of a car at Love Park to take photos just before 3 am when two people tried to rob them. As the trio fled 8 shots were fired and hit a 38 year old man multiple times. The victim was taken by police to Hahnemann Hospital where he is in critical condition. Police are searching for two suspects who fled on foot on 15th Street toward Arch Street.

Uninsured individuals can start signing up for health coverage today in Obamacare Health Exchanges set up by the Affordable Care Act. The plan allows individuals with pre-existing conditions or low income to get coverage. Help is available online at Healthcare.gov where you can see all the available plans and cost of each.

Sports
The Phillies will retool their coaching staff, releasing pitching coach Rich Dubee yesterday.
