Montgomery County is appealing the order that bans gay marriage. Democratic officials are taking the ban on same sex marriage licenses to the State Supreme Court. Montgomery County had issued 174 licenses to same sex couples prior to the ban.

The Carnegie Hero Fund has named three men from New Jersey to its list of medal winners. Thomas St. John Harding of Mays Landing, William Smith of Fairview and John Nash Hale of Toms River are being recognized for acts of heroism in everyday life where they risked their own safety to aid their fellow man.

There is no end in sight for the government shutdown as the House can’t agree on a spending plan. Many around Philadelphia report they are feeling no pain by the furlough of non-essential government employees. However, many face the possibility of a long time without a pay check. 186 of 225 National Park Service workers, 75 FEMA employees and many others here are on the sideline.
