Augusta "Gussie" Clark passed away this weekend. She was only the 2nd African-American female elected to serve as a Philadelphia City Councilwoman, a position she held for two decades. Clark was elected to serve as a Democratic Councilwoman at-large in 1980. She served as Chair of the Education Committee and also as Chair of the Public Property and Public Works Committee before retiring in 2000. Augusta Clark was 81 years old.

Drill teams, drum lines and civic clubs marched down South Broad Street Sunday to celebrate Columbus Day. The Delaware valley boasts an Italian American population of 865,000 people. Many of them were out for the 55th annual Columbus Day Parade & Italian Festival. The parade and festival offered onlookers a chance to learn about Italian American heritage as well as try some traditional Italian foods, as well as American favorites like pizza and spaghetti.

Gas prices continue to fall throughout the country — and believe it or not — there are gas stations in South Jersey where you can get a gallon for less than $3. The Gulf station on Burlington-Mount Holly Road in Mount Holly has hit a milestone Sunday. $2.99 for a gallon of regular — if you’re paying cash. Analysts expect prices to continue falling into the winter because demand is flat and refineries are producing a cheaper winter blend of gasoline.

Eagles’ 31-20 victory over the winless Buccaneers on Sunday at Raymond James Stadium. It was the second-straight victory for the Eagles, whose 3-3 record keeps them atop the NFC with a first-place showdown pending against visiting Dallas next Sunday. Starting for the injured Michael Vick, Nick Foles completed 22 of 31 passes for 296 yards. Under Foles, the Eagles are 4-for-7 for touchdowns in the red zone.
