Vulgar Graffiti in Northeast Philly; Former Eagle Irving Fryar Arrested; Government Agreement in DC

Residents in Northeast Philadelphia discovered vulgar graffiti sprayed on their homes and cars when they woke up this morning. The vandals targeted homes on Hoffnagle Street, Benson Street, Emerson Street and Solly Avenue in the Rhawnhurt section. Police say that they spray painted racial slurs, sexual images, and swastikas on people's homes, fences, and cars. They wrote messages like “Fu#@ Crackers” and some of the swastikas were written backwards. There didn't seem to be any pattern to the victims or type of distasteful message written. Neighbors spent the morning trying to wash away or paint over the vandalism. No arrests have been made. It remains under investigation.

Former Philadelphia Eagle Irving Fryar and his 72-year-old mother Allene McGhee have been charged in New Jersey with theft. The two have been indicted in a “sophisticated mortgage fraud scam” in their attempt to steal more that $690,000. Authorities say that McGhee attempted to take out five equity loans on her home in a six day period. This conspiracy was a deliberate attempt to defraud the banks and not a simple clerical error. 51-year-old Fryar grew up in Mount Holly Township. He was a Pro Bowl wide receiver, playing for four different teams between 1984 and 2000 including the Eagles. Now he is pastor of his Burlington County church and head coach of the Robbinsville High School varsity football team.

Congressional leaders reached a last minute agreement to avert the Treasury default and reopen the partial government shutdown after 16 days. The proposal would give the Treasury the authority to continue borrowing through February 7th and the government would reopen through January 15th.

Mostly Cloudy, Temperatures in the mid-60's this evening.
