A man wanted on a pair of aggravated assault warrants was shot by U.S. Marshals as he tried to avoid capture at a Penn's Landing restaurant. U.S. Marshals were staked out around the parking lot of the Chart House, waiting for Eugene Dykes to arrive at the restaurant to drop his girlfriend off for a night of work. Dykes tried to ram some of the officers with his vehicle once they moved in. A Deputy Marshal and a state parole officer opened fire on Dykes, shot him once in the head. He’s listed in critical condition at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Four women have been indicted on charges of stealing more than $750,000 in merchandise using personal information obtained from patients in medical offices where two women worked. The Baltimore indictment alleges the two women worked in medical practices and used the information of nearly 50 patients and with their co-defendants, took over credit accounts at department stores and bought items for their personal use. Also indicted in the alleged conspiracy are Denise Wearing and Yolana Welch, both of Philadelphia.

Temple University hosted the 13th annual Lew Klein Alumni in the Media awards Thursday. Actress Whoopi Goldberg received the Excellence in Media Award for her groundbreaking work on stage and on the silver screen, as well as on her daily presence on The View. After the ceremony, she spent nearly an hour doing a Q and A with Temple students. Other Lew Klein awardees included the late E. Steven Collins and Temple alum Noah Goldstein, producer for rapper Kanye West.
