Carter-Williams named Player of the Week; MontCo Manhunt Called off; Robbers Shot by Customer

Philadelphia 76ers point guard Michael Carter-Williams was named the NBA Eastern Conference player of the week on Monday. Carter-Williams joins Shaquille O’Neal as the only two rookies to earn the honor in the first week of their NBA career. Shaq was started his career in 1992 for the Orlando Magic. MCW lead the Sixers to a surprising 3-0 start vs Miami Heat, Washington Wizards and Chicago Bulls. He averaged 20.7 points, 9.0 steals and 4.3 assists.

Police are searching for two armed suspects who robbed a tavern and led authorities on a chase last night in Montgomery County. At 1:30 am two armed masked men entered the Whitpain Tavern on Dekalb Pike and robbed patrons and employees at gunpoint. They also looted the cash register and a took the safe. The suspects took off in a stolen red Mustang. They were followed by police and crashed in an ditch near Montgomery County Community College to avoid spike strips. They then took off on foot. Authorities shutdown the campus and set up a perimeter. The school was on lockdown for hours this morning as it was canvassed. The manhunt was called off around noon but the suspects were never found. (see photos below)

Two alleged robbers were shot dead this afternoon in Reading, PA outside a convenience store. The incident happened at the “Kricks Korner” store near 9th and Exeter Streets. Police Sgt. John Solecki said that while two masked men attempted to rob the store, a customer, a civilian, shot and killed the two men. The customer has been placed under arrest. Authorities have not yet identified anyone involved in the shooting.
