Shainline Excavating Stolen Backhoe Recovered, Inquirer Publisher To Finish Out Contract

A Pennsylvania man has been jailed on charges he stole a backhoe from a suburban construction site then drove it about 30 miles to a scrapyard in Philadelphia where he intended to sell it. Police estimate it would have taken William Michael Pusey about 2½ hours to make the trip to Philadelphia from Shainline Excavating of Phoenixville, where the backhoe was stolen Sunday. The backhoe’s owner was able to locate it because of a global-positioning device in it.

A judge had denied an attempt to remove the publisher of the Philadelphia Inquirer by one faction in the owners’ group struggle at the media company. But she reserved decision on whether to reinstate fired editor Bill Marimow. After two days of arguments and testimony, and several private side bar conversations with as many as ten high-powered lawyers in the dispute, Judge Patricia McInerney decided publisher Bob Hall could finish out his contract.
