Federal officials declared the deadly building collapse in Philadelphia this summer "preventable." Yesterday they pointed to a string of failures in the planning and execution of the demolition triggering the disaster that claimed six lives. OSHA cited owners of two firms for safety violations noting that the project proceeded without an engineering survey.

President Obama dropped by for 10 minutes and raised $1 million. Yesterday's fundraiser at the Mount Airy home of Comcast executive David L. Cohen was attended by a group of 120 who paid between $10,000 and $32,400 a plate. Obama spoke for 10 minutes and talked about what he needs to accomplish in the next three years – rebuild infrastructure, invest in early childhood education and fix a broken website.
