Derailed Train Going 82 in 30 mph Zone, SMG Takes Over PA Convention Center Operation

The train derailed in New York this week killing four and injuring dozens more, was speeding as it rounded a curve and left the tracks. The National Transportation Safety Board has determined the train went into the 30 mile per hour curve at 82 miles per hour. Just before the train derailed, the brakes were applied but not in time. The NTSB is interviewing the crew to learn why the train was going so fast.

The Pennsylvania Convention Center is under new management. Hoping to turn around a sharp decline in convention bookings here, Conshohocken based SMG will take over operations and be charged with getting Philadelphia’s trade unions to work together. Among trade show organizers, Philadelphia has a reputation for being difficult to work with because of high costs and labor unions involved in the Convention Center. SMG operates convention centers in 70 other US cities.

Tonight the 76ers host the Orlando Magic.
