Eighteen people were busted this morning in a pair of drugs raids in Collingdale, Delaware County. The raid dubbed “Operation My Block” focused on the 200 block of Lincoln Avenue that had become overrun by two rival drug gangs. Neighbor complained of the increasing violence, gun fire, and drug activity on their block. Seventeen were arrested for possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance. One was arrested on a domestic warrant. Authorities seized small amounts of marijuana and cocaine, heroin paraphernalia, about $2,000 in cash, and more than a thousand counterfeit prescription sheets.

Students and faculty members at Villanova University have erected a memorial on campus to those killed by gun fire in the city of Philadelphia in 2012. The visual reminder of the shear number of victims is located in the heart of campus next to the Connelly Center. 288 t-shirts bearing the names of those who died, plus 26 more for the Sandy Hook, CT shooting are hung upon crosses stuck in the ground. There will be a program and candlelight vigil on Saturday with families of gun violence victims and former Governor Rendell.

A would-be robber was stabbed trying to rob a South Philadelphia sushi restaurant this afternoon. At around 3:30 p.m. a 25-year-old man tried to rob the Terryin Sushi Bar on the 300-block of Synder Avenue at gunpoint. Instead, the owner stabbed him in the back. It seems the owner had had enough. This was the third time in three weeks his restaurant was robbed by the same man. Authorities also believe the suspect is responsible for robberies at the Lyn Grocery Store on South 4th Street and also South View Pizza. He was transported to Methodist Hospital.
