Tensions ran high at Temple University's regularly scheduled Board of Trustees public session today. The Board was hoping to move on its recent decision to cut seven sports programs. Dozens of athletes who make up those teams are looking for answers. But all they got was a brief statement from University President Neil Theobald, who said that the athletes and coaches were the victims of Temple’s overreach. These student athletes say they will continue to fight to save their respective programs.

A judge has ruled that two men facing charges in a Philadelphia building collapse that killed six people will remain behind bars until their next court date in February. Municipal Judge Patrick Dugan on Tuesday denied bail requests from lawyers for Griffin Campbell and Sean Benschop, the demolition contractor and equipment operator charged in the June 5 collapse. Campbell faces six counts including third-degree murder and Benschop is accused of involuntary manslaughter and other charges.

The chairs of the House and Senate Budget Committees, have announced a budget deal that will set spending levels for the next two years, preempting another government shutdown in January. The deal will replace mandatory, across-the-board cuts from sequestration with a different set of spending cuts and non-tax revenue. The result is about $23 billion in net deficit reduction. The House will act on the deal before they leave for recess on Dec. 13, and then turn it over to the Senate.
