Southwest Phila Home Invasion, PA Unemployment Benefits, Gunshot Victim Drives to Police Station

Philadelphia Police are investigating after a 71-year-old man was tied up during a home invasion Wednesday night in Southwest Philadelphia. Three men entered through the back door and tied the man up with plastic ties. According to police, a cell phone was taken. No weapons were used and no injuries were reported.

A bipartisan deal out of Congress sets up the framework to fund the government for the next two years. The deal, if passed, addresses everything from spending cuts to revenue increases, but not long-term unemployment benefits which are set to expire December 28th. In Pennsylvania, nearly 500,000 people remain out of work, and out of those, the Philadelphia Unemployment Project said 87,000 are on long-term unemployment benefits. But those payouts could stop by December 28th if Congress doesn’t act.

Authorities are investigating after a gunshot victim drove himself to a Philadelphia police station Wednesday. A 23-year-old man drove himself to 35th District Headquarters with a gunshot wound to the lower right side of his back. He was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center and placed in extremely critical condition.

Weather, December 12
Partly Cloudy. High 28 in Center City.
