Fireworks New Years Eve, Eagles Saints Playoff Tix and Temps, Winter Storm 2014

If you like fireworks, you have two opportunities to ring in the new year with a colorful blast at Penn's Landing over the Delaware River. The first show is at 6 pm tonight. Then they re-load and do it again at midnight. The displays will take place just south of the Ben Franklin Bridge and will be visible for miles anywhere along the banks of the Delaware.

The Eagles are preparing for a home playoff game against the New Orleans Saints Saturday night at the Linc. Game time temperature will be 20 degrees, which the Saints, a dome team, will not like. The Philadelphia Sports Congress estimates a single home playoff game means about $10 million for the Philly economy in hotels, restaurants and tickets. Tickets on Stub Hub range from $167 to $2,700 each.

The New Year will bring some nasty winter weather this week. By the end of the week, temperatures will struggle to get out of the teens. And there is a possibility of a few inches of snow Thursday into Friday. The worst of what is shaping up to be a major winter storm is predicted to stay mostly to Philadelphia’s north and east. But be prepared to deal with a bit of winter this week.

Sports
Tonight Villanova travels to Butler, St. Joe’s is home with Binghamton this afternoon.
