Man on Video Throws Molotov Cocktail; PLCB Seizes $150,000 in Wine; PennDOT Spent Half Winter Budget

Authorities are looking for a man caught on surveillance video trying to firebomb a home in Northeast Philadelphia. It happened at 2:10 a.m. on January 9th outside a residence on the 2600 block of N Frankford Avenue in Port Richmond. The man tried to repeatedly light and throw a Molotov cocktail into a window of the home. The device did not ignite but it did break the window. The suspect is described as a male wearing a hooded coat with a hooded sweatshirt underneath, a black hat, sweatpants and white shoes.

The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board seized more than 2,420 bottles of fine wines valued at $150,000 from the Malvern home of a Chester County lawyer. 49-year-old Arthur David Goldman was the subject of a 9-month-long undercover sting. Agents for the PLCB first made contact with Goldman in March 2013 and made several buys of rare wines through email. They raided the underground wine dealer's home on January 5th. Most of the wines found are unavailable in Pennsylvania's state-run liquor stores. Goldman was charged with selling liquor, transporting liquor and purchasing “liquor or alcohol from another source other than a Pennsylvania liquor store.”

PennDOT says it has already spent half of this winter's weather budget but it will continue to handle any weather situation as usual as the season continue. As of last week, officials say the agency spent a little over half of the $189 million budget. If need be they'll dip into the spring budget which may affect pothole patching and paving, however, safety during winter storms is a primary concern. The last time PennDOT had to use some of the spring budget was in 2009-2010.
