Another woman was shot and killed in a purse snatching in Philadelphia this weekend. Twenty nine year old Melissa Thomas was leaving a West Philly bar at 53rd and Market when she and a girlfriend were approached by two men in hoodies. As the friend turned over the purse, Thomas was shot twice in the chest and died at the scene. Her friend was shot while running away.

Appel Farms has decided to put their annual music festival on hold while they re-evaluate their mission. Just about every year since 1988 including last summer when iRadioPhilly broadcast the Appel Farms fest, the event attracted major national artists to what some called South Jersey’s Woodstock. A management agreement with the Landis Theater in Vineland created financial problems for Appel. The Farm will conitinue to operate its summer arts camp and programs.

Philadelphia philanthropist H.F. “Gerry” Lenfest has pledged $250,000 to Governor Corbett’s re-election campaign. Lenfest usually supports Democratic politicians but became Corbett’s second largest individual donor because of the Governor’s support of the proposed Museum of the American Revolution. Corbett approved a $30 million grant for the project which Lenfest has been a major fund raiser for.
