Last night's ice storm lead to widespread power outages, downed trees, traffic lights out, and closed roads today. A record number of people lost power across the area, upwards of 700,000. PECO officials warn that it may take a few days to get everyone's service back online. PECO has requested the help of 500 additional line crews from outside the region to assist with the work. Montgomery and Chester counties were some of the hardest hit. Abington Memorial Hospital had to switch to backup generators. Villanova University will be closed through the weekend because of a power outage. Temperatures will remain at or below freezing the next few days, so road conditions could still be slippery.

A 19-year-old male from North Jersey has been arrested for allegedly send pornographic materials to underage girls in Ocean County using three different Facebook accounts. Back in November of 2013 a woman reported to Police that her 10-year-old daughter had received porn and sexually graphic dialog through Facebook chat. The Ocean County High Tech Crime Unit and Bergen County police executed a search warrant in Cliffside Park and through that evidence were able to arrest Tyler Anderson. Anderson had befriended a network of underage girls using three different Facebook accounts, the other two under the assumed identities of Alec Rivera and Eric Plato. Anderson was charged with 3rd Degree Child Endangerment and 3rd Degree Distribution of Obscenity to Persons Under the Age of 18. He is currently being held in the Ocean County Jail.

You may have ridden it ,and you probably have seen it rise above the west banks of the Schuylkill all summer long, but the Zoo Balloon will no longer float above Fairmount Park. The balloon had to be decommissioned this week due to damage it sustained this winter by the accumulation of snow. 2014 was expected to be it's final year anyway, but the manufacturer recommended it be deflated now. This is actually the second balloon at the Philadelphia Zoo. The first one lasted six years, this would have been the seventh year for the current one. The Channel 6 Zoo Balloon first appeared in 2002. Approximately 228,000 people have ridden the tethered helium balloon.

Tonight,
Party Cloudy, temperatures in mid-low 30s this evening in Center City
