Philadelphia Auto Show Open, Winter Spending Increases, SEPTA Bus Detour Routes

The Philadelphia Auto Show is keeping its doors open despite the snow. Getting to the Pennsylvania Convention Center might be the hardest part, and Donald Franks, the Auto Show's dealer chairman, says he hopes mass transit remains an option. This coming Saturday, the second Saturday of the show is generally the biggest day of the whole show.

Rock salt, shovels, snow blowers, eating out, pet boarding, hotel stays, generators and tree removal are just some of the unexpected expenses people are finding themselves faced with this winter. Amounts vary from house to house. Increased spending has been reported to range anywhere from $150 to $1,000, depending upon the circumstances.

For the first time this winter, SEPTA is planning to detour some troublesome bus routes, to prevent some buses from spinning their wheels , failing to make it up an incline. SEPTA says detours will go into effect at 4 a.m. Thursday, unless conditions warrant earlier implementation, on the following routes:

7, 9, 14, 18, 19, 20, 22, 23, 24, 26, 27, 28, 31, 33, 38, 40, 44, 46, 48, 50, 52, 53, 55, 57, 58, 65, 70, 73, 84, 88, G, H, XH, J, K, L, 92, 94, 95, 97, 99, 103, 104, 107, 110, 112, 115, 117, 118, 119, 124, 125, 126 and 139.

SEPTA is taking a number of preventative measures to keep as much service as possible in-tact on Thursday. Trains will be stored in subway tunnels overnight to keep them out of the elements and ready for the morning commute. Riders are advised to check SEPTA’s web site (septa.org) for real-time updates for all modes of SEPTA travel throughout the storm.
