Two projects that will become Philadelphia's tallest residential and commercial towers went before the City Planning Commission for zoning amendments. Developer Carl Dranoff's 47-story hotel/condo tower at Broad and Spruce Streets, seeks zoning changes to allow for more density in relation to the lot, and install a loading dock on Spruce Street. The $1.2-billion Comcast Tower at 18th and Arch Streets, next to its current tower, also calls for widening the curblines of Cuthbert Street, to help get service vehicles in and out.

A US Airways flight from Boston to Philadelphia was cancelled after officials say the plane struck a deicing truck at Boston Logan International Airport Tuesday. US Airways flight 740, an Embraer 190, struck a parked deicing truck with its left wing tip as the aircraft was taxiing to the deicing area at the airport. No injuries were reported.

A 17-year-old high school student is facing weapons charges after a loaded handgun was found in his backpack, Tuesday at John Dickinson High School in Wilmington. Delaware State Police and school staff found the student in a first floor classroom while class was in session. The student was immediately separated from the backpack, which contained a fully loaded Kel-Tec 9mm Luger semiautomatic handgun with the serial number obliterated. The student was a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing a firearm, and is facing numerous charges.
