Philadelphia DC 47 Agreement, PennDOT Salt Hauling, Globetrotters Sign Kevin Grow

Philadelphia and its white-collar workers union reached a contract agreement that ends a five-year stalemate. Mayor Michael Nutter and District Council 47 Chief Fred Wright signed the deal, an eight-year-accord, dating back to 2009 and ending in 2017. The city’s blue collar workers, DC 33, is still without a deal.

PennDOT has begun a round-the-clock hauling operation to bring tons of extra road salt into the state from Delaware, including an extra 6,000 tons for our region. The effort will bring in a total of 20,000 tons of extra salt into Pennsylvania from the port of Wilmington. So far this winter, PennDOT has burned through nearly a million tons of salt – 32 percent more than at this point, on average, over the past five years.

Kevin Grow, a high school senior with Down syndrome who became an Internet hit with his 3-point shooting, will play next month for the Harlem Globetrotters. Grow will suit up for the Globetrotters in the March 9 game in Philadelphia. Grow, a devout Globetrotters fan from suburban Philadelphia, was added to the roster Tuesday as their 3-point specialist.

Weather, February 26

Snow showers this morning. Cloudy later. High 29 in Center City.
