Record Cold Safety, March Winter Storm, Philadelphia Applies for 2016 Democratic Convention

Philadelphia has endured record cold this winter and we are in it again. Single digit lows and highs only reaching the 20's are 20 degrees below normal for this time of year. The wind is pushing chill factors below zero so dress accordingly these next few days. Bundle up and cover all exposed skin. And if you're traveling by car, bring a blanket, water and a cell phone in case of a breakdown.

March will roar in like a lion this winter. Sunday night and Monday Philadelphia will add to its snowiest winter on record totals when a major storm is expected to dump a foot of snow and ice on Philadelphia. More than a foot appears likely for suburbs north and west of the city. In some areas the storm will start as ice and can bring down trees and power lines. You know the drill by now. Prepare for outages.

Philadelphia has thrown its hat in the ring to bring the 2016 Democratic National Convention to the city. It took Rep. Robert Brady pushing and reminding Mayor Michael Nutter to apply before the deadline tomorrow. Nutter says he was aware of the deadline and in his proposal, Nutter pointed out Philadelphia’s rich history, cultural vitality and diverse communities as an ideal backdrop for the convention.

Sports
City Six action tonight Penn hosts Brown.

Weather
Sunny, windy and cold today. 24 in Center City.
