A female resident of a town home development was killed and seven utility workers were injured after a powerful explosion and fire in Ewing Township, Mercer County Tuesday. The explosion occurred just off I-95 at 28 Crockett Lane in the South Fork housing community around 1 p.m. Police say the female victim was found on top of a parked car near the explosion scene. Hospitals in the area were reportedly in disaster mode, and medics from as far as Bucks County responded to the scene. Authorities say at least 10 homes were destroyed by the explosion and fire.

After a deadly explosion Tuesday afternoon in Ewing Township, Mercer County residents of the South Fork housing community were forced out of their homes and into an evacuation center after the blast took place. Ewing officials and the American Red Cross set up shop at the West Trenton Fire House at 40 W. Upper Ferry Road. Some people were home at the time of the blast. They felt and heard the explosion and also the chaos that immediately followed. At a press conference Tuesday night, officials announced some residents living in units evacuated, but not damaged, would be allowed back in their homes.

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement revealed Tuesday it has issued $26,500 worth of fines against the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, and Revel Casino Hotel. The Borgata’s fines were more conventional, involving the casino allowing underage patrons to gamble and drink while on the premises. Revel was fined $2,500 for not letting the gaming enforcement division know in advance about the filming of a marriage proposal on the casino floor. Revel broadcast audio and video of the proposal over video monitors in a gambling area.
