A school police officer's beard, his religious beliefs, and a grooming policy are the subject of a federal civil rights lawsuit filed against the School District of Philadelphia. Siddiq Abu-Bakr has been a School District of Philadelphia police officer since 1987. He's Muslim and the Department of Justice, in this lawsuit, alleges the school district discriminated against him after a new grooming policy went into effect. Starting in 2010 school police and security officer’s couldn’t have their beards longer than a quarter-inch. And according to this suit, Abu-Bakr told his supervisor he couldn’t trim his beard because it would violate his religious beliefs, the policy went into effect and then he was written up.

A female resident of a town home development was killed and seven utility workers were injured after a powerful explosion and fire in Ewing Township, Mercer County Tuesday afternoon. The female victim has been identified as 62-year-old Linda Cerritelli, who lived at the residence. An autopsy was performed Wednesday and she was identified by dental records. Investigators returned to the scene Wednesday morning and officials with OSHA were also at the scene. Investigators are still trying to get to the bottom of what happened.

The Philadelphia Eagles will not be bringing back Michael Vick for another season. The Eagles are going in a different direction with the backup quarterback spot, and are not interested in retaining Vick. Nick Foles is their starter and the team will explore other veterans to help man the position.
