A routine traffic stop landed a Philadelphia police officer in the hospital this morning in North Philly at 11th and Cumberland when a mini-van being pursued by other patrol cars slammed into the stopped police cruiser with an officer inside. The driver of the mini-van, suspected of DUI, was running from police at 60 miles per hour, driving on the sidewalk and hitting parked cars. The injured officer was treated at Temple University Hospital and will be okay.

The School District of Philadelphia is being sued by the U.S. Justice Department over a regulation that restricts the length of employee’s beards. The DOJ says the new rule constitutes religious discrimination. The beard policy is no more than a quarter inch. School employee Siddiq Abu-Bakr, a member of the Islamic faith has not trimmed his beard in 27 years in accordance with his religion.

A Philadelphia man with a tracheotomy tube in his neck and a feeding tube in his stomach was the victim of a home invasion last night in the Torresdale section. The 54 year old victim was followed home by two attackers who forced their way into his apartment and stabbed him in the chest during a scuffle. Fortunately, the victim pressed his medic alert button and approaching sirens sent the suspects fleeing after stealing his iPad and his meds.
