The sudden death of a Drexel University sophomore is believed to be a case of meningitis. The exact cause of mechanical engineering major Stephanie Ross' death is not known at this point, but Universiity officials are taking precautionary measures. Ross was found unresponsive in her sorority house along Powelton Ave. on Monday morning by her Phi Mu (Beta Tau) sisters and transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Anyone who had direct or close personal contact with her is urged to go to the Drexel University Student Health Center for antibiotics. Symptoms of meningitis are similar to the flu including nausea, vomiting, fever, and an achy body. Anyone experiencing symptoms should contact the Health Center.

Philadelphia Police are investigating a shooting this afternoon near LaSalle University in the city's Olney section. The incident happened just before 4pm near 19th and West Olney Ave., just off campus. A 22-year-old male was shot in the stomach. He was transported to Einstein Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The suspect made off on foot. He is descibed as a male, 18 to 25 years of age, scruffy beard, light or white color top and dark color pants. No arrests have been made. The incident did not have any connection with the University except proximity.

A police standoff in Wallingford, Delaware County this afternoon put a local elementary school on lockdown for a few hours and ended when the suspect shot himself. It started when police responded to a report of a suicidal man on the 700 block of Pennsylvania Avenue. Nearby Nether Providence Elementary School was placed on lockdown at 2:00 pm. The school is only a block and a half a way and the worry would be dismissed students walking near the scene. The standoff ended at 4 pm when the suspect took his own life. There were no other injuries.

Tonight
Mostly Cloudy, and pleasant, temperatures falling through the 50's this evening in Center City
