Aborted Flight Passengers Take Off, Delaware County Gas Main Evacuation, E-Cigarette Ban
  by: iradiotom - Philadelphia, PA

Passengers from yesterday's aborted US Airways Flight 1702 finally made it to Fort Lauderdale early this morning. The plane blew a tire last night on takeoff from Philadelphia International. The pilot aborted and the front landing gear collapsed. All passengers got evacuated safely. Some booked flights and got out on other airlines.

About 300 homes got a voluntary evacuation notice in Delaware County yesterday when PECO shut off the gas to clear a blocked main. Customers in Norwood complained that their homes were not heating properly. PECO found that water had seeped into a gas main. The voluntary evacuation was lifted at about 5 last night and all gas was back on by midnight.

Philadelphia City Council wants to ban electronic cigarettes from public places and prohibit their sale to minors. Opponents claim e-cigarettes help people quit smoking. City Health Commissioner, Dr. Donald Schwartz says he supports the ban while more studies consider the long-term effects of the product.

The 76ers have the Indiana Pacers tonight.

Mostly sunny. 52 in Center City.
