SEPTA Talks to Avoid Strike, Bartram High Violence, Close Replays Shown at Phillies Games

SEPTA is reporting progress in talks with unions to avoid a possible shutdown on Monday. The sides are discussing a 2 year deal. If a deal is not reached, a shutdown of nearly all mass transit in Southeast Pennsylvania could happen Monday. If a strike happens, only the Regional Rail, Para-Transit and University Loop would remain in service.

More violence at Bartram High School in Philadelphia has led to the addition of four more police officers and veteran troubleshooter, Ozzie Wright as co-principal. A large brawl erupted in the school cafeteria this week. Two weeks ago, a conflict resolution specialist suffered a fractured skull when he was beaten by a 17 year old student.

Phillies fans at Citizen’s Bank Park will now see replays of close calls on the video screen. Until now, questionable calls were not shown to avoid embarrassing umpires and inciting fans. This year, Major League Baseball managers can request umpire video reviews of close plays, so fans at the game can see the same replays shown on TV.
