Suit Corner Old City Destroyed By Fire; 20 Injured by Teen Slash/Stab Spree in PA High School

Flames destroyed a landmark Old City business today as fire engulfed the building at 3rd and Market. The Suit Corner has been at the southwest corner of the intersection for the past 50 years with it's iconic red, white, and blue facade. Fire broke out around 9:15 am. The owner and all employees were able to make it out safely. The fire department responded within 3 minutes but flames had taken over the structure. After going to 2 alarms, it was brought under control just after 10:30. Officials say that the fact that the nearest fire house at 4th and Arch Streets is closed wasn't a factor in response. One firefighter was injured after tripping on a hose. The intersection's other landmark store, The Shirt Corner, collapsed during demolition last month.

A 16-year-old armed with two knives stabbed and slashed students in a Western Pennsylvania high school this morning. The teen was eventually subdued by the school police officer who was also injured and an assistant principal. It happened in the crowded hallways of Franklin Regional High School, about 15 miles east of Pittsburgh, just before school started. 19 students were injured, 4 seriously. Some injured have been treated and discharged, though some are still in critical or serious condition. All are expected to survive. Investigators have not released the name of the suspect and are still trying to determine a motive.

Tonight
Partly Cloudy, temperatures into the 50's this evening in Center City.
