New Castle County Police are advising teens of a recent string of sneaker robberies in the Newark and Bear areas. Suspects have been assaulting teens, removing their sneakers, then fleeing on foot. Incidents have happened at Weiss Park, Catherine Court, and Martin Drive. Anyone with information regarding these incidents is asked to call the New Castle County Police Department at 302-395-8110.

Philadelphia Police say a driver has been arrested and is facing DUI charges after an accident involving her vehicle and a SEPTA Regional Rail train on Tuesday in Southwest Philadelphia. The 32-year-old driver was traveling northbound on 56th Street and lost control of her vehicle and crashed through a fence onto the SEPTA Media/Elwyn Line train tracks, and the train then struck the vehicle. Two passengers in the vehicle were injured, no passengers on the train were injured.

Pennsylvania’s tax collections in the all-important month of April are lagging badly, and it’s threatening to knock Gov. Tom Corbett’s election-year budget proposal $1billion out of balance. Lawmakers and legislative staff say April tax collections are now so far behind projections that the only question is how severe the shortfall will be. The governor was counting on robust tax collections, some new sources of cash and delaying pension and health care payments to pump hundreds of millions of additional dollars into public schools and social services.
