NJ Tax Shortfall, Megan's Law Offender Faces Criminal Charges, Nutter Listening Tour Begins

New Jersey has 60 days to find an $800 million solution as an income tax shortfall leads to questions about cutting spending. Tuesday, Governor Christie said that making a $1.5 billion payment to the state pension fund by the end of June remains a priority but not untouchable. Officials say not making the pension fund payment could hurt the state’s ability to borrow money – making it tougher to do projects as simple as re-paving roads riddled with potholes.

Radnor Township Police say a Megan’s Law Offender now faces criminal charges for allegedly stalking a 21-year-old Villanova University student inside the campus library on 10 different occasions in September and October of 2013. Chief William Colarulo, calling 39-year-old Kornwell Chan “a predator,” says Chan was arrested when he tried to return to the campus library last Tuesday but was spotted by officials. Chan is now back behind bars at Montgomery County Prison after he was cited for probation violations.

Wednesday was the first stop on Mayor Nutter’s “listening tour” to hear firsthand how budget cuts have impacted students and teachers in the Philadelphia school district. His visit to George Washington High School, on Bustleton Avenue in the Northeast, was the first of four around the district. The mayor had a rousing exchange with students in the hallway, during which there was a run on “selfies.” Then he switched gears in the school library, where 18 students placed chairs in a circle. Each of them had an introspective moment to vent.
