A pair of ospreys have built a nest inside the fire siren at Spring Lake. By law, the nest can't be disturbed. Ospreys are listed as a threatened species in New Jersey during their breeding season. So the siren has been turned off for the spring and summer, while firefighters and paramedics rely on pagers and cellphones to alert them of emergencies. The nest cannot be disturbed at least until Sept. 1.

Philadelphia police are investigating a murder-suicide in Germantown. It happened around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the 6200 block of Clearview Street. According to investigators, a 53-year-old man shot a 59-year-old woman once in the head and multiple times in the torso. Investigators say the man then turned the gun on himself. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say two people jumped off a ship into the Delaware River near the Port of Wilmington.
One person swam to shore in Pennsville, New Jersey. The second person was rescued by a tugboat and was taken to the hospital. Customs and Border Patrol is investigating.
