The Philadelphia Zoo is giving visitors a closer look at the big cats with a new overhead trail system that lets the cats cross overhead contained only by a mesh netting fence. The new $2.3 million addition gives the tigers, lions, jaguars, pumas and snow leopards unprecedented access to more areas, smells and views in the zoo. Philadelphia is the nation’s first zoo to embrace the elevated trail system.

A Penn Graduate student has died after a freak accident on the Walnut Street Bridge. He was an innocent bystander walking along the bridge when two cars crashed. He grabbed a light pole and held on to it, but one of the cars swerved into the pole knocking the pole and the student off the bridge 45 feet to the ground. Originally listed in critical condition the student died at 10:03 last night.

The board of the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia has unanimously approved new work rules that supporters say will attract more big shows to the underused venue. Four of the six affected unions have signed on, but Teamsters 107 and Carpenters 8 have not, claiming they would lose half their working hours. The 2 holdout unions are under contract through Saturday and may picket.

The Phillies move their series with the Blue Jays to Toronto tonight.
